The Forbidden City served as the majestic imperial palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. Nestled in the heart of Beijing, it was not only the residence of the Emperor for nearly five centuries but also the ceremonial and political center of Chinese governance. The Forbidden City boasts a rectangular layout, spanning 960 meters in length and 750 meters in width, housing an astounding 9,900 rooms with a total roof area of 150,000 square meters. Construction began under the Ming Emperor in 1406, taking fourteen years to complete. The symbolic use of red and yellow throughout the palace walls and roofs is significant; red symbolizes happiness, good luck, and prosperity, while yellow represents the color of the earth on the Loess Plateau, the ancestral homeland of the Chinese people.
